Keeping memories alive
By Michael Holahan Staff Photographer Tuesday, March 8, 2016 Mary-Kathleen Gernant Blanchard, who died last March, was an Augusta State University instructor who taught French language and literature and, after retiring, touched many lives when she became a deacon at St. Paul’s. MICHAEL HOLAHAN/STAFF Rita Hamilton (center) talks about the tree planted in memory of former ASU instructor Dr. Mary-Kathleen Gernant Blanchard.A tree in Blanchard’s memory was planted by the Katherine’s 100 Trees Project, an idea of Katherine Gomon who advocates the planting of trees and shrubs throughout the area. With the help of the Augusta Women’s Club, the Katherine’s 100 Trees Project plants trees and shrubs to remember special events such as the birth of a child, birthdays, anniversaries and memorials. – From staff reports |
